On Thursday, March 29, 2007, SCAN and the Allies in Prevention Coalition hosted the 5th Annual Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon. Held at the Army-Navy Country Club in Arlington, more than 150 people attended the highly anticipated annual event that honors local individuals for their commitment to protecting children and supporting families in Northern Virginia.

First Lady of Virginia Anne Holton served as keynote speaker for the event. Ralph Boyd, Chairman of the Freddie Mac Foundation, introduced Ms. Holton, who spoke about her new foster care initiative, "For Keeps," as well as the many stories of inspiration she has heard across the state on her recent listening tour. The Allies in Prevention Coalition and Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) of Northern Virginia honor individuals every year for strong commitment and exceptional efforts to stop child abuse and neglect in Northern Virginia.

2006 Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon
The 2006 Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon featured keynote speaker Dr. Susan Orr from the
Federal Children's Bureau; Lisa Collis, former First Lady of Virginia; and Maxine Baker,
President & CEO of the Freddie Mac Foundation. 2006 Ally in Prevention Awards were presented to the
following individuals: Alexandria: Jill Applebaum, Esq., Alexandria: Mary O'Donnell, Esq.,
Arlington: Louise Drucker, Fairfax/Falls Church: Nancy Coffey, Loudoun: Hon. Pamela Brooks,
Prince William: Karen Smith.

2005 Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon
The 2005 Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon featured keynote speaker Kevin Kirkpatrick, Vice
President of Communications and Advancement of Prevent Child Abuse America, as well as special
guest Senator Richard L. Saslaw. A special workshop with Kevin Kirkpatrick followed the luncheon:
"Advancing a Social Movement to Prevent Child Maltreatment."

special guests First Lady of Virginia Lisa Collis, and Maxine Baker, President and CEO of the Freddie Mac
Foundation.

The 2003 Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon featured keynote speaker Jane H. Woods, Secretary of
Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Other special guests included Virginia
Delegate Brian Moran.
Winners of the 2003 Ally in Prevention Awards: Hon. Nolan B. Dawkins of the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court; Hon. Stephen W. Rideout, Chief Judge of the Alexandria Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court; Coreen Urbina, Parent Education Coordinator with Arlington County Department of Human Services, Child and Family Services Division; Jane T. Shaw, Social Worker III with Fairfax County Department of Family Services; Joseph Andrew Wilson, Youth Outreach Specialist for Youth Outreach Programs with the Loudoun County Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Services; Jo Anne Renton, Parent Education Program Manager with Prince William County; and Dave Cleary, founder of SCAN of Northern Virginia, who received an Honorary Award.
