SCAN’s 20th Anniversary Proclamations
Throughout SCAN’s 20th anniversary year, local and state governments have recognized the organization for its 20-year commitment to supporting families and changing the lives of children in Northern Virginia. These official proclamations have included:
The Commonwealth of Virginia
On March 17, 2008, the Commonwealth’s Senate and House of Delegates passed a joint resolution to honor SCAN for 20 years of commitment to protect the child and support the families of Northern Virginia. Senator Patsy Ticer, a SCAN Honorary Board Member, presented the official proclamation to SCAN at the 6th Annual Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon on April 2, 2008.

Fairfax County
On April 28, 2008, SCANof Northern Virginia was recognized by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for its 20th anniversary. Founded in 1988 to serve the growing and diverse communities of Northern Virginia, SCAN seeks to promote the wellbeing of children, improve parent-child relations and prevent child abuse and neglect. In the last year SCAN has directly touched the lives of more than 1,400 children and families through parenting classes, parent support groups, advocacy and outreach.

City of Alexandria
On May 28, 2008, the Alexandria City Council presented SCAN with an official proclamation in honor of the
organization’s 20th anniversary. Board members, staff and supporters were present to receive the proclamation
recognizing SCAN’s 20 years of commitment to protecting and supporting the children and families of Northern Virginia.
Prince William County
On June 3, 2008, the Prince William County Board of Supervisors presented SCAN with an official proclamation in honor
of SCAN’s 20th anniversary. SCAN staff, board members and Allies in Prevention Coalition members were on hand to accept the honor.
Arlington County
On June 24, 2008, the Arlington County Board recognized SCAN’s 20th anniversary and its commitment to making a difference
in the Arlington community with an official proclamation.
Loudoun County
On June 28, 2008, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors presented SCAN with an official proclamation to honor the
organization for its 20 years of work to prevent child abuse and support families in Northern Virginia.
