APRIL 2010

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  This year, we're working hard to spread the word about our Pause for a Child campaign.  You can help!

A SPECIAL REQUEST:
We're working to recruit 500 supporters on our official "Cause" page on Facebook.  We already have more than 250, but we still need 250 more to gain more networking capabilities on the site!

WHO IS SCAN?
MEET MELANIE, AN ALLIES COALITION MEMBER
There's more than one way to educate the public about child abuse prevention, and no one knows that better than Melanie Dunn-Chadwick.  A charter member of SCAN's Allies in Prevention Coalition, Melanie works for Fairfax County Public Schools' FECEP/HeadStart program.

In addition to her outreach via the Coalition (including distributing resources and materials to the families and professionals she works with), Melanie thoughtfully spreads SCAN's prevention messages in other ways as well. This month she's helping to plan a special Sunday at her church, Fairlington United Methodist, to recognize National Child Abuse Prevention Month and share the Pause for a Child message.  Melanie is also a member of SCAN's Circle of Hope, a select group of individuals who support SCAN by making annual gifts of $1,000 or more.

Do you know someone like Melanie? Are YOU someone like Melanie?  SCAN's Public Education Program facilitates the Allies in Prevention Coalition and depends on fantastic members and volunteers to reach new families and communities with our messages.

SUPPORT CASA'S VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT
SCAN's Alexandria/Arlington CASA Program continues to recruit a special group of volunteers to best serve the children in our community, including African American and bilingual Latino volunteers.

Thank you for your continued interest in and support of SCAN.  You are helping us build hope for children and families across Northern Virginia!
