WHO IS SCAN?
MEET LINDSAY WARNER, A VOLUNTEER WITH SCAN'S
ALEXANDRIA/ARLINGTON CASA
PROGRAM
Lindsay Warner has been a
volunteer with SCAN's Alexandria/Arlington CASA
(Court Appointed Special Advocate) Program since
2006. Since then, she has volunteered more than
600 hours and advocated for five children.
Lindsay's most recent case was a difficult
one, involving complex issues. There was
conflicting information from both of the
parents and it was difficult to assess the facts.
Lindsay verified information with service
providers and family members, getting the most
accurate information possible to help the Judge
make well-informed decisions. Lindsay worked
closely with the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) trying to
assess the child's circumstances. At one point,
the relationship between the mother and the GAL
deteriorated. Lindsay developed a rapport with a
very difficult and resistant mother and was able
to obtain contact information for the
grandparents, whose existence until that time was
unknown to the court and other professionals. As a
result of this connection, the child went to live
with the grandparents instead of going into foster
care.
Because of Lindsay's patience and
persistence, she was able to prevent a foster care
placement and allow the child to grow up in a
safe, stable home with his extended
family.
This
year, Lindsay was named Volunteer of the
Year by
The Family and Children's Trust Fund. The
Family and Children's Trust Fund (FACT) is
administered by a Board of Trustees appointed by
the Governor to raise and distribute funds to
local communities for family violence prevention,
treatment and public awareness throughout the
Commonwealth of Virginia. Lindsay is pictured

Director Carrie Cannon, Executive Director Sonia
Quiñónez and CASA Case Supervisor Dana
Taylor.
