Born in Peru, Ana Maria earned an impressive list of academic and professional credentials before coming to the United States in 2002. The following January, she saw a flyer for one of SCAN's parent support groups. Nominate someone you know for the 2008 Allies in Prevention Awards. Winners will be announced at our Annual Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon on April 2, 2008. The deadline for submissions is February 15, 2008.

DO SOMETHING "FORE" SCAN THIS SPRING! 
SCAN's annual Golf Tournament, Tee-Off "Fore" Children and Families, continues to be a popular event and highly successful fundraiser for SCAN. Last year the event raised more than $49,000 for SCAN's programs! YOU can be a part of the team who makes it all possible!

A GLIMPSE OF CASA
Every day, SCAN's CASA volunteers are working to make a difference for our community's most at-risk children. How?
In one case, 2 CASA volunteers are working together to advocate for a family of 6 children. With mental health issues, housing issues, and 5 of the 6 children having special needs, it is one of the most complicated cases to which CASA has ever been assigned.
Our two volunteers have spent countless hours observing the children in visitation with their parents, in school and in foster homes. Since August of 2006, the volunteers have devoted more than 800 hours to advocating for these children, and in that time have developed a thorough understanding of the children's development and improvements, an invaluable service for the families, social workers, attorneys and judges involved in the case. There is no doubt these volunteers are making a HUGE difference in their CASA children's lives.

PARENT SUPPORT ON WEDNESDAYS
SCAN's Sacramento Educational Parent Support Group for Spanish-speaking parents now takes place on Wednesdays from 10:00 - 11:30 AM at the Sacramento Neighborhood Center - Fairfax County.
The support group is a place where parents can talk with other parents who understand their challenges and provide peer support. SCAN offers two other weekly educational parent support groups located in Alexandria.
