CITY OF ALEXANDRIA, PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY PRESENT PROCLAMATIONS FOR SCAN'S 20th ANNIVERSARY
On May 27th, the City of Alexandria presented SCAN with an official proclamation in honor of the organization's 20th anniversary.  SCAN Board Members, staff and friends (pictured above) were on hand to accept the honor.

Earlier this week, Prince William County also presented an official proclamation in recognition of SCAN's anniversary. SCAN was proud to have staff, board members, and Allies in Prevention Coalition members at the event to celebrate.

16 PARENTS TO GRADUATE THIS WEEK FROM SCAN'S LOS ABC'S PARA PADRES

In this spring's parenting class for spanish-speaking families, SCAN is proud to announce that 16 parents will graduate this week from the program.  A total of 25 parents participated in the 8-week course, as well as 29 children (the most SCAN has ever reached in one class!)

The next parenting class series will take place this fall.  Registration for both the English and Spanish classes will begin over the summer.

LOCAL TEEN RALLIES SUPPORT FOR SCAN
Every year, SCAN focuses on public education and outreach in April during National Child Abuse Prevention Month.  This year, SCAN was lucky enough to have help from Alexamarie Allen, a Fairfax County eighth-grader.

After reading about child abuse on the Internet, she decided to do something.  Alexamarie and her mother contacted SCAN, and were able to organize an outreach and fundraising activity in their own community.  Their efforts were rewarded with over $500 in donations!

Many thanks to the kind commuters who donated and witnessed for themselves the true compassion these young people have for the children and their families who suffer from child abuse. And of course, SCAN is grateful for Alexamarie's inspiring work to help children in her own community.
