MARCH 2010

Every year in March, we're busy preparing for the launch of our annual Northern Virginia Child Abuse Prevention Campaign.  This year, we will kick off the campaign on March 25th at our 2010 Allies in Prevention Awards Luncheon, just before National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.

Please help us spread the word!

SETTING A GREAT EXAMPLE
SCAN CASA ProgramSCAN staff members braved the snow last month to host a Multicultural Volunteer Recuitment Event for the CASA Program. In addition to being in the local news, the event also drew attention from the National CASA Program for its special focus on attracting African American and bilingual Latino volunteers.

WHO IS SCAN?
MEET ROXANA, A PLAYGROUP VOLUNTEER
Ask children in SCAN's Chiquitos playgroup about Roxana, and they're likely to talk about the special cakes she makes for birthdays, the costumes she wears to tell stories and the pictures she takes of them and their families.

But Roxana's true gift to the playgroup is her energy and dedication.  Two years ago, Chiquitos lost its facilitator and the group's future was uncertain.  Roxana came forward with a commitment to keeping the group alive, and has since been the powerful force behind its growth and success.

Do you know someone like Roxana?  SCAN's Parent Education facilitates a number of playgroups, parent support groups and parenting classes, and ALL depend on fantastic volunteers to make a difference in the lives of children and families.

Thank you for your continued interest in and support of SCAN.  You are helping us build hope for children and families across Northern Virginia!
