HEAD TO D.C. THIS National CASA AssociationMONTH AND EXPERIENCE NATIONAL CASA'S "FORGOTTEN CHILDREN" EVENT

Every day another 850 children quietly enter the nation's foster care system under a veil of confidentiality, commonly due to suspected abuse or neglect.  This month, May 19 - 23, the National CASA Association will launch a dramatic event and new study, "Forgotten Children: Foster Children Take a Stand."

Since underaged foster children cannot appear for themselves, life-sized, cut-out photos will take their place in the shadows of the Washington Monument on the National Mall, at a pace of 850 every day.  With thousands of "Forgotten Children" on display by the end of the week, supporters hope the event will raise awareness of the struggles children in the foster care system face.  Last year, CASA volunteers across the country represented 225,000 children, but that's only half of the youth in the system.

Since moving to the Washington DC area from Texas in 1988, Sabrina Black has worked as a paralegal for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Alexandria, helping to prosecute federal drug cases since 1989. Early on in this job, she saw a lot of young men and women wrapped up in the drug scene and she often wondered about their families - particularly their children >>>
