WHO IS SCAN? MEET MOONAH, A
CASA VOLUNTEER
Moonah
Turay was working as a court interpreter in
Alexandria and Fairfax when she first learned
about the CASA Program. Being from Sierra
Leone, she was translating Krio for 2 cases
that happened to have CASA volunteers appointed
for the children involved. As she witnessed
CASA's impact, she decided to learn
more.
Moonah
went through training and became a CASA volunteer
in 2009. In November of that year, she was
assigned her first case and continues to advocate
for the same children today. Moonah's African
background has proven to be an incredible
asset in her work as an advocate. The children's
family is also from Sierra Leone, and her
ability to relate to their beliefs, language and
cultural norms has made an incredible
difference for the children and mother, as well as
the entire Treatment Team working with the
family.
Moonah's
story is a fantastic example of the
unique value multicultural volunteers bring
to the table. Thank you, Moonah, for your
very special work!
