SCAN Volunteer Sabrina Black
honored by Bank of
America
On November 6, SCAN's CASA Volunteer
Sabrina Black was presented with the Local Hero
Award through Bank of America's 2008
Neighborhood Excellence
Initiative. She is pictured
above (center) with CASA Program Director Carrie
Cannon and CASA Case Supervisor Ann
Caulkins.
For recognition of Sabrina's dedication to
serving Greater Washington neighborhoods, she was
given the opportunity to direct a $5,000 grant
from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to
an eligible nonprofit organization of their
choice. Sabrina selected
SCAN!
Following her mother's example of
community involvement, Sabrina became a CASA
volunteer with SCAN. For 12 years, she has been a
voice for children in the court system because of
abuse and neglect.

FUN, FASHION & FUNDRAISING FOR
SCAN
A huge THANK YOU! to DC boutique
Betsy Fisher for once again hosting an evening of
fashion fun to support SCAN. This year's
event, "Cocktail
Convergence", held on October 23rd,
raised more than $2,000 for SCAN's
programs. Rumor has it that SCAN's own
Diane Charles was even one of the models!

SNAPSHOT OF HOPE:
Lisa Collis, Honorary
Board
Member
Ask Lisa Collis--an
Honorary Board Member and wife of Senator-elect
Mark Warner--about SCAN and she immediately talks
about SCAN's Alexandria/Arlington CASA Program and
her experience as a CASA volunteer. Being a CASA
volunteer brought her face-to-face with the
reality that there are no easy fixes to difficult
issues such as substance abuse, teen parenting,
poverty, single parenting and generational child
abuse>>>
