STAYING FOCUSED ON FAMILIES &
CHILDREN
In recent weeks, SCAN
has been active in a region-wide dialogue
concerning the future of nonprofit funding here
in Northern Virginia and across the
country. Executive Director Diane Charles
has spoken with a number of media outlets
concerning the Freddie Mac Foundation's current
status and the general state of the nonprofit
community:
As Diane noted in one
interview, "It's not a time when you
want to cut back on support to families.
This might be the most critical time to be
there."
SCAN remains committed to
building hope for children and families
when they need it most.
We hope you'll continue to help by learning
more about our 20-year
history, volunteering with our
programs or donating online when it matters
most. |

On October 7, SCAN and
its' Allies in Prevention Coalition partnered
with the Child Protection Partnership (CPP) of
Greater Prince William and the Prince William
Partnership for Health (PWPH) to host an
Allies in Prevention Breakfast
Summit focused on coordinating efforts to
reach more children and families in the Greater
Prince William Area.
State Senator George
Barker and George Mason University
professor Dr. Molly Davis,
a SCAN Board Member, were special guests who
spoke to the summit's 40 attendees. The
audience included everyone from state delegates to
a local mayor to representatives from Prince
William, Manassas and Manassas Park social
services, as well as leaders from many of the
area's leading nonprofits. CPP's Jo
Anne Renton and Paul Moessner, as well
as PWPH's Margaret Goldberger, also spoke at
the event. Attendees enjoyed
energizing comments from the special guests as
well as valuable networking opportunities, and
left with a Prevention Toolkit to use in their own
communities.
