OCTOBER 2011

Come fly with us! Plans for our 9th Annual Toast to Hope are taking off! We are so excited to be hosting this event for the first time in the Historic Lobby of Terminal A at Reagan National Airport on November 12th. As our theme states, this is truly "one night that will lift up children and families all year long!" Toast to Hope helps us raise CRITICAL FUNDING for our child abuse prevention programs, so please consider taking action to be a part of the excitement:

YOU SAY "PARENT," I SAY "PADRE"

October is a special month for our Parent Education Program. Our ABCs of Parenting Class (in English) celebrates graduation on the 11th, and just a week later Los ABCs Para Padres (in Spanish) kicks off! We are thrilled to offer so many programs in both English and Spanish to best serve our Northern Virginia community.

CASA WRAPS UP TRAINING NEW VOLUNTEERS
This fall, 14 new CASA volunteers are training to advocate for children in the local court systems. They come from all walks of life, but go through an intensive training and interview process before being sworn in as official CASA volunteers next month. Keep them in your thoughts as they prepare to give a voice to the children in our own community who need it most.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

MEET SCAN: WENDY & SERGE ALBERT, CHEFS/OWNERS AT TEMPO RESTAURANT
Wait, chefs and restaurant owners? Yes! Local business owners like Wendy & Serge (who own Tempo Restaurant
in Alexandria) make so many of SCAN's special events possible. The team at Tempo Restaurant has been supporting our Toast to Hope event for years. This year they are once again a Culinary Sponsor, and are also distributing postcard invitations to their patrons in October. Wendy (pictured above, center, with volunteers from Toast to Hope Vintner
Rick's Wine & Gourmet) also helps us entice other local restaurants to participate. Thank you, Wendy & Serge, for your continued support!
