What a difference a day makes: SCAN’s 16th Annual Golf Tournament

June 12, 2012

Beautiful weather. A stunning course. Over 95 golfers, dozens of volunteers and many generous sponsors. What do you get when SCAN puts them together? The opportunity to raise close to $33,000 of critical funding for child abuse prevention programs in the coming year.

As the day started, we set up tables, auction items and more with help from volunteers like Mark Korkolis.

Before the official shot-gun start, golfers enjoyed a series of contests. Scott Brisendine would take home the Putting Contest Award for the shot caught in action here:

Soon golfers were getting ready for the shot-gun start at 1:00 PM, including the foursome from Jakamo below, who would go on to win 2nd Place in the Tournament overall.

With hours on the course, golfers were happy to find help from volunteers along the way! SCAN Board alum Trudy Brisendine helps the foursome from Safeway (a Kemper Sponsor) get ready for their next green.

As the day progressed, some golfers grew confident – with good reason! The foursome from AOC Solutions (Watering Hole Sponsor) would go on to finish in 1st Place at the end of the day.

Others would enjoy accolades at the Awards Dinner following the tournament, where Sean Hosty – SCAN Board Member and Golf Tournament Committee Chair – and Planning Committee Member Susan Hebbel helped to present honors at the Awards Dinner.

Many others helped present, too! Here our incoming Board Vice President presents the award for 3rd Place overall to Kevin Wiles from PenFed Realty.

Maybe the most fun award to present? The new Disaster Game Award, presented by SCAN Board Member Jeff Bliss and Executive Director Sonia Quinonez below…

…and the winner was a foursome invited by Brown Performance Engineering! They were great sports about it, and we knew the true reason our Master’s Sponsor was there in the first place. NOT to win a golf tournament, but to make an IMPACT on the lives of children and families in Northern Virginia.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who made this event possible! You can view a complete Photo Gallery – including photos of every foursome on the course – here.
