SCAN Story: Donna Fleming Cuviello & Pete Cuviello
Donna Fleming Cuviello and her husband, Peter Cuviello, are ardent supporters of SCAN. Donna joined SCAN’s Board of Directors in June 2013, bringing a wealth of experience in human services (Fairfax County) and nonprofit organization management on a national level. She took on committee service and leadership roles quickly, serving as Board President in FY16. Donna presently chairs the Board’s Governance Committee and is an active participant in the Board’s current strategic planning process. While Donna recently retired as Vice President of Regional Operations for College Summit, she has not slowed down and is currently dividing her time between SCAN and her family which includes her new husband, Peter.
Peter, better known as Lieutenant General Peter Cuviello (Ret.), began his distinguished military career in 1969, training first at Fort Hood, Texas. During the next thirty-five years, Peter served in multiple leadership and command positions, both stateside and in foreign theatres including Vietnam, Korea, Germany and Panama, culminating with his appointment as the CIO/G6 of the US Army, here in DC. After his military retirement, for the next thirteen years, Peter was employed at Lockheed Martin, BearingPoint, and Deloitte working in IT and Cybersecurity. He has now retired again at the end of 2015.
When asked why they support SCAN, Donna and Peter shared,
“We are committed to SCAN’s cause because we are parents (to 4) and grandparents (to 14), but also because we are concerned citizens. Being parents/grandparents, we recognize the importance of responsible and healthy parenting and the impact abuse can have on children. We have great respect for the work that SCAN does in our community to protect our most valuable asset–our children and their futures.”
