We’re empowering Northern Virginia to end Child Sexual Abuse. SCAN of Northern Virginia – in partnership with the Center for Alexandria’s Children and other community-based partners – is pleased to offer Stewards of Children training, the nationally recognized child sexual abuse prevention program. SCAN & The Center for Alexandria’s Children offer Stewards of Children trainings using curriculum developed by the Darkness to Light Foundation.
We’ve provided trainings for: Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter (LAWS) | Galilee United Methodist Church | Child Protection Partnership of Prince William | ACTS Turning Point | NOVA – Manassas Human Service Network | Healthy Families | Boys & Girls Club | AHC | FPY | Ft. Myer Army Base | Quantico Marine Base | Arlington Central Library | Ft. Belvoir Army Base | Open Door Presbyterian Church | SAVAS Sexual Assault Crisis Center | Loudoun County Child Advocacy Center
The goal of Darkness to Light is to diminish the incidence and impact of child sexual abuse and to raise awareness of the prevalence and consequences of child sexual abuse in our communities. Stewards of Children is a revolutionary child sexual abuse training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse and motivates them to take courageous actions. The Stewards of Children program is designed for organizations, agencies and corporations that serve children and youth.
SCAN believes that community educators and leaders should be challenged to talk about the issues surrounding childhood sexual abuse and make simple changes in their organizations where necessary. As this conversation occurs, the taboo of sexual abuse will be diminished and children will live in an environment of safety. It is our firm belief that when adults truly understand the impact, prevalence and how to prevent child sexual abuse and when children feel safe enough to discuss these issues with an adult who knows how to respond to them, sexual abuse will be eliminated in our communities.
