Understand rights-based child protection, myths and realities, how to support those most vulnerable to harm, and how comprehensive child protection programs uphold federal and state statutory guidance for LGBTQ+ affirmation and inclusion. This training addresses sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression (SOGIE) in youth-serving organizations through the lens of child protection and risk mitigation.

Audience: Youth-serving professionals, child advocates, caregivers and caregivers of LGBTQ+ children

Objectives:

• Understand rights-based approaches to supporting groups vulnerable to harm
• Review national and VA statutory guidance related to trans and nonbinary youth accommodation and affirmation in youth serving organizations
• Identify organizational actions that mitigate risk of harm to all children
• Review model practices that support an organization’s duty of care and legal obligations
