CASA volunteer info session

The first step towards becoming a SCAN CASA volunteer is to attend an info session.

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers are a constant for children who have been abused or neglected. CASA’s are highly trained volunteers appointed by local judges to advocate for children. After six weeks of training, they are sworn in by the courts and assigned a case. They meet with the child on their case and everyone in the child’s life, then make recommendations in the child’s best interest directly to the court. Our volunteers are a voice for children when they need it most.

SCAN is a National CASA Affiliate. Attendance at an info session is required before volunteering with SCAN. Our Alexandria/Arlington CASA Program recruits volunteers twice a year for fall and spring training classes. Bilingual, Hispanic Volunteers and African American Volunteers are greatly needed.

Volunteer requirements:
—21 or older
—Strong oral and written communication skills
—Ability to commit approximately 10-20 hours per month when assigned to a case
—Ability to complete six weeks of volunteer training
