NEWS: SCAN Croquet Day Raises Over $40,000 for Prevention

Over 200 team members, families and volunteers enjoyed SCAN’s 4th Annual Croquet Day at Hensley Park this month, raising more than $40,000 for the organization’s child abuse prevention programs in Alexandria and across Northern Virginia.The tournament was led by Bob Kroeger—otherwise known as “Croquet Bob”—who was inducted into the Croquet Hall of Fame in 1999.
Presenting sponsors Dave Cleary and Marc and Leana Katz were joined by more than 30 individuals and local businesses including Access National Bank and McEnearney Associates. Food trucks were provided by District Taco and Rocklands Barbecue, while live music came courtesy of Two Blue. The “5 Ps” Team won first place in the tournament, led by Paul Davis, incoming president of SCAN’s Council of Young Professionals.
The 2016 Banker’s Cup went to “The Malet-ov Cocktails” Team sponsored by Access National Bank, with team captain Ben Lawler, of Access National Bank, and his teammates Dr. Jim Lee, George Kostel, and John Long. Access National Bank also sponsored a second team, “#PeelTheTurn,” with John McManus, Craig Shapero and Vikki Burkett.
The Best Team Name award was presented to “The Team Formerly Known as Prince” led by Keshaun Clark from WashingtonFirst Bank, and the Best Team Spirit award went to “The Best Bank in Town” Team from BB&T, led by Jennifer Ferrara with Marion Brunken, Adron Krekeler and Tina Townsend. The team from the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce was awarded “Best Team Uniform” for their Alice in Wonderland theme.
