SCAN offers a wide variety of programming that addresses child abuse and neglect on a wide spectrum – from prevention to intervention to advocacy. We continually work to evaluate our offerings and track outcomes in an effort to improve our programs and ensure our programs are making an impact in tangible, positive ways.
Program Spotlight: SCAN’s ABCs of Parenting Class
SCAN’s ABCs of Parenting improves parenting attitudes shown to be related to child abuse and neglect. A recent program evaluation found strong reductions in participants’ high risk attitudes regarding parental expectations, empathy, harsh punishment, and appropriate parent-child roles.
Program Spotlight: CASA Program
SCAN’s Alexandria/Arlington Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program provides trained volunteers appointed by the court to serve as a direct voice for children in the juvenile court system.
Program Spotlight: Public Education Program
SCAN’s Public Education Program works to educate the public—from parents and caregivers to community leaders and neighbors—about positive parenting, preventing child abuse and strengthening families in Northern Virginia.
Program Spotlight: Operation Safe Babies
SCAN’s Operation Safe Babies program is focused on educating new parents about safe sleep for infants, providing cribs for families in need and delivering resources for families and babies in Northern Virginia.
