SCAN’s Public Education Program works to educate the public—from parents and caregivers to community leaders and neighbors—about positive parenting, preventing child abuse and strengthening families in Northern Virginia.
Northern Virginia Child Abuse Prevention Campaign: Parenting Can Be Tough
SCAN’s NEW community education campaign is Parenting can be tough: Asking for help doesn’t have to be! Based on the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, it focuses on helping parents see the “whole child”, understand the impact of ACEs and reach out for help and support. This is Northern Virginia’s only comprehensive public education campaign focused on the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Launched every April for National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the campaign materials are used all year long by SCAN as well as other organizations in the Allies in Prevention Coalition to educate parents and energize community members to take an active role in the prevention of abuse and neglect.
