June 7, 2018–SCAN’s 6thAnnual Croquet Day took place on May 31st with a waterfront view at Oronoco Bay Park in Alexandria. A record crowd included dozens of spectators and volunteers as well as the 110 players on 33 teams playing across 14 croquet courts. Special thanks to “Croquet Bob” for returning to oversee the tournament, photographer Minh Pham from PSK Creative, and emcee Kurt Schneid with Brand Ready Media. Dozens of local businesses and individuals sponsored the happy hour-style event, including lead sponsors Custom Ink, Dave Cleary, McEnearney and CPA Global. Vola’s Dockside Grill hosted the after-party. (See a full list of sponsors here.)

Winners of the tournament were determined based on number of rounds won. Six teams were declared winners, having won both of their games:

  • Access National Bank Team 2 (pictured above)
  • Alexandria Chamber of Commerce
  • BB&T
  • Bean Kinney
  • John Marshall Bank
  • Cleary Team 2

SCAN’s Croquet Day event raises vital funds for its child abuse and neglect prevention programs across Northern Virginia.  In fact, funds from events like this not only constitute 19% of SCAN’s yearly budget, but also represent the most flexible funding SCAN receives – which enables us to respond to community needs more effectively and efficiently.

This year, SCAN’s Croquet Day event attracted individual and corporate teams from across our service area of Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax County/Falls Church, Prince William County and Loudoun County.  In total, including teams, spectators and volunteers, more than 175 people participated.
